BLOGGING FOR CASH PART ONE: HOW TO MAKE MONEY FROM COMPANIES USING YOUR BLOG OR WEBSITE

Another way you can make money as a writer is to blog (i.e. write) about something that you are passionate about and at the same time make money from it. This is different from making money-writing articles in the sense that you will have a platform from which to render services to online companies in the form of

·        Renting advertising space to them and making money in the process (GOOGLE ADSENSE)

·        Writing reviews/ promoting the products and services of different companies and making money for yourself as an affiliate.

For you to be successful blogging you must write about something that you are passionate about. If you are not passionate about the topic/ theme you choose the chances that you will stop half way is very high. To know what you are passionate about ask yourself this question “can I do it for free” if your answer is not a yes then you cannot blog about that particular subject/ topic but if your answer is a yes then you have found your topic/ subject area, people who blog primarily for money seldom make it because the passion to sustain their effort is not there.

Unlike article writing where your employer dictates what you are going to write about, you get to write about what you are passionate about in blogging and decide how you are going to earn money from writing about what you are passionate about.

In this article I am going to walk you through all the necessary steps you will need to set up a blog/ website so that you can start using it to make money from companies such as Google.com, Clickbank, Amazon.com, commission junction e.tc, who are dying to have you promote their services and product for them and in the process reward you with dollars.

 STEP 1: HOW TO SET UP A BLOG/ WEBSITE.

Over the next few steps you are going to learn how to build your own money making blog/ website. But before we begin we need to do the following

 Choose a topic/ subject area. The first step in blogging is to select a subject/ theme that you are very passionate about; it may be soccer, finance, pornography, home business, and the stock market e.tc. For the purpose of this discussion we shall be choosing home business, as this is one of the biggest and most lucrative markets on the Internet. There are thousands of affiliate programs and business opportunities to choose from and there are many products and services that offer 50% commissions and residual commissions.               

This does not mean that for your blogging project that you must choose home business; there are virtually thousands of other areas you can choose from, the procedure is the same just substitute the subject/ topic of your choice for home business.

Choose a good domain name:

Now that you have chosen a topic /subject area that you want to blog about the next step would be to choose a good domain name that would reflect the nature of your business. A domain name is simply a unique address for your website and it should be relevant to the type of website you have. Since we are building a home business website it makes sense to have a domain name that is related to “home business”, “making money online”, “working from Home” or “earning extra income”.

Before you start searching for domain name availability, do a little keyword research to help you think of possible keywords to include in your domain name. Visit the Google Adwords Keyword Tool. Type in all the words and phrases you can think of that are related to the website that you will be building and hit the return key after each keyword or phrase. Once you have done this, click the “Get Keyword ideas” button and wait for the results

You will see a big list of keywords related to the keywords you entered along with the approximate number of searches per month on Google. You can use these keywords to help you find a domain name.

Write down some of the keywords that have thousands of monthly searches. Next find a domain name that is available. You can use the following tools to help you brainstorm:

Choose a blog/ web hosting service:

Now that you have chosen your topic/ subject area and your domain name the next step is to sign up for website hosting.

A Web Host is just a server (computer) that stores all the files and databases for your web site so that other people can view it on the Internet any time. There are thousands of web hosting companies on the Internet, some excellent, some mediocre and some bad, so it pays to do a little research before signing up with a hosting plan.

I would recommend the following blog hosting services because they not only offer you free blog hosting services but also give you the opportunity to upgrade to paid packages. So if your problem is you don’t have sufficient cash don’t worry, you can start with the free hosting and as your business expands you can upgrade to paid services.  Though you have limitations if you are using their free service. For more detailed information on how to open an account with them you can visit their websites i.e.

www.wordpress.com and www.blogger.com. Then you can register an account with them with the domain name of your choice.

Building your website/ blog.

Ok, now we have finally reached the most exciting step – building your website/blog. There are many ways to build a website/ blog, but we highly recommend using WordPress. WordPress is a free but very powerful content management system. It allows you to quickly and easily add content to your blog/ website without having to know anything  about HTML or web programming.                     

In addition to this there are thousands of templates known as “themes” available, many of them for free. You can change the look of your blog/ website at any time by uploading a new theme, you can choose from a variety of different blog/ website templates at www.blooger.com.

You can download the latest version of WordPress at www.wordpress.org and follow the instructions to install it on your host.

STEP 2: HOW TO ADD CONTENT TO YOUR BLOG/ WEBSITE

By now I want to assume that you would have signed up an account at www.blogger.com or www.wordpress.com . You would have used your chosen domain name to sign up the account.                                                               So now you have an empty blog/ website, the next question is how do you add content to your new blog/ website so that you can start generating money from companies who want you to promote/ review their products and services and others like Google.com who may want to use your website/ blog as a platform to advertise their customers products and services. If you are using WordPress, adding content is very straight forward. Just login to your WordPress admin panel and click “Posts” then “Add New”.

All you need to do is enter your post title and body then click the publish button and your content will be published on your site. The same is applicable to the blogger platform too, it has an easy to manage content management system that allows you to publish your post without the need or knowledge of HTML (hypertext markup language).

 Try to add a post to your website a few times each week as this will help you to attract visitors from the search engines. It is best to add unique content, but if you are stuck for ideas search for “PLR articles” in Google and you will be able to buy batches of cheap articles which you can edit as you wish and add your name to.

If your blog/ website is about starting a home business here are a few ideas for content:

-Review a product or service that you have used and

-Write an article about the benefits of running a home business or working from home

- Write about your own experience of making money online

- Provide some tips about working from home or Internet marketing

To increase the chances of your content being ranked in search engines such as Google you can use the Google Adwords Keyword Tool that I mentioned earlier on this article. Make a big list of keyword phrases that have a few hundred searches per month. Every time you make a new post to your website/ blog use a different keyword phrase in the title of your post and 2-3 times throughout the post body.
